Transition: peace within the storm

One of my more extremely personal diary pages from 2009, this sculpture was created with a beloved friend in mind- who was hovering between this life and the next. It spoke too about my need to let go; not only of my love for him and the great times we had, but as well the many parts of my life that were no longer helping, but hurting me. The ‘walking’ action of the legs, as opposed to standing still, I created intentionally, as if to say, keep moving. One foot in front of the next. Keep going.

The red fire color of the stone throughout is balanced with the pale white breast and belly. For me, these  patches being the absolute peace and calm within the storm of transition that together creates a life of balance.
